On March 10, 2022, the signing ceremony of 1.2 million gallons per day water treatment plant took place at China Business Center. It is a grant from the government of China for the people of Gwadar. China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC) has been granted the contract. Mr. Wu Ping represented CHEC. Speaking on the occasion he presented a brief description of CHEC and the achievements they have attained in Pakistan so far. Furthermore, he said that the project is important for the people of Gwadar in shortening if not eradicating the supply-demand gap.
Afterwards, Mr. Naseer Ahmed Kashani, Chairman Gwadar Port Authority addressed the audience. Demonstrating the significance of the project, he dubbed it as a lifeline for the people of Gwadar. The provision of uninterrupted water, which is a fundamental necessity for life, is of paramount priority.
Moreover, he said that “other miscellaneous issues of Gwadar regarding utility services, specifically power, have been taken with the concerned authorities and would be resolved as of earliest. The materialization of 1.2 MGD plant required industrious efforts and complex inter-departmental coordination. With the onset of this megaproject, we would be able to utilize the Free Zone optimally. It is indeed a win-win situation for all stakeholders. The site location of the plant is indispensable in a sense that it is adjacent to both residential and industrial areas. Supply of water to old city would be convenient as compared to Sawad and Ankara dams. East Bay Expressway is 97% completed and in its final stage of completion. However, this is not the end and more coordinated efforts are needed for the timely completion of this project. “
Eventually, the agreement was signed by Mr. Wu Ping and Mr. Dawood, representing CHEC and GPA respectively. It was witnessed by Mr. Brigadier Fahad Mansoor, from 440 Brigade, COMWEST Rear Admiral Jawad Ahmed and GPA Chairman Naseer Ahmed Kashani
